What is this gospel but “of first importance”

What is this gospel but “of first importance” in the Christian way of life.

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. -1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (ESV)

When you gather with other Christians ask yourself “Is this enough”. How does the world see us? Are we a fortress within or just a refuge from change? Are we following human desires and prescriptions or the Holy Spirit who always directs us closer to God?

Churches are broken by conforming to the loudest voices in society. Church where is your voice? Israel was a nation of slaves. It took one man to listen to God and they were set free. Christians have unwittingly become slaves to the world system(s). Church where is your voice in the wilderness?

500 years ago one man made a change in how we teach others what is of first importance in the Christian way of life. While praying in his prayer tower Martin Luther, through reading of the scriptures illuminated by the Holy Spirit, realized there is nothing we can do to obtain our own salvation and that Christ + nothing = everything.

The Reformers taught what is known as the “five solas”.

  1. Scripture alone (sola Scriptura)
  2. Faith alone (sola fide)
  3. Grace alone (sola gratia)
  4. Christ alone (solus Christus)
  5. Glory to God alone (soli Deo gloria)

If this isn’t being taught in your church perhaps you need to stand up and make a difference too. When I first believed, I stood up, looked around and saw I was the only one who brought a bible to the church I was attending. I desired to learn more about Jesus so I went in search of and found a place where the five solas were taught. If you, with the help of His Spirit, have had this revelation Christ + nothing = salvation you too can make a difference. Tell someone today! Disciple others!
